World Cup Scams – Before the Goal, Spot the Scam

With the World Cup just around the corner, people from different cultures and countries will come together to witness and celebrate one of the world’s most popular sporting events.

An event of this scale creates strong demand for tickets, hotels, travel packages, and official merchandise. For many people, finding a good bargain can feel like part of the excitement.

However, behind the excitement lies a worrying reality: World Cup scams. These fast-growing fraudulent schemes take advantage of the event’s popularity and the high demand surrounding it.  Fake websites, misleading offers, streaming scams, counterfeit merchandise, and urgent messages pushing people into making hasty decisions are just some of the tactics used to lure people with what seems like a great deal, only to leave them disappointed or defrauded.

Don’t be fooled – take these precautions to stay safe:

  • Buy tickets, travel packages, and merchandise only from official channels or authorised sellers.
  • Check the website address carefully and watch for fake websites, especially those with slight spelling mistakes in the URL.
  • Be cautious with sponsored search results, as scammers can use them to appear legitimate.
  • Think twice before clicking on online ads or promotional links.
  • Never share personal or financial information if you have any doubts about a website’s authenticity.

Don’t give scammers a chance to score.
