What is Whaling?

Whaling is a type of spear-phishing attack that targets high-level individuals within an organisation such as CEO, CFO and other senior executives. These type of attacks originates in the form of fraudulent emails, text messages or phone calls with purpose of manipulating these individuals into divulging sensitive corporate data, personal data or authorising large payments to cyber criminals.

How can you protect yourself?

  • Verify the email address.
  • Remain alert for emails asking for important information especially when there is a sense of urgency that encourage the recipient to act quickly.
  • Don’t openly share personal information.

  • Do not respond.
  • Report the incident.
  • Change Passwords
  • Enable Multi Factor Authentication
